There is plenty vs. there are plenty
Just a remainder...
Things is plural, so its verb should also be plural. With there sentences, the true subject comes after the verb. Omit the word there and see what happens:
Ex: There are plenty of opportunities out there.
Ex: Plenty of opportunities are out there.
EX: There is plenty of food on the table.
Ex: Plenty of food is on the table.
